Removals from Canary Wharf to Portugal

Removals from Canary Wharf to Portugal, from a Docklands flat to Lisbon’s hills, Porto’s riverside or the Algarve coast — with the customs paperwork prepared before anything leaves E14.

Why people leave the Wharf for Portugal

Portugal is the destination on our list most often chosen rather than assigned. Some of the moves are postings — Lisbon has built a sizeable technology and shared-services sector, and the Parque das Nações business district by the river houses a good share of it. More are personal: a household that can now work remotely, or one ready to swap a tower view of the docks for one of the Atlantic.

Whichever it is, the move starts with the same Canary Wharf logistics — a booked service lift, a building with rules, a loading bay that is not available on demand — and ends somewhere with very different streets. We plan both ends from the start.

How the Canary Wharf to Portugal route runs

We pack and list your belongings at the Wharf, cross the Channel, and run by road through France and Spain to Portugal. For some loads a sea crossing into northern Spain shortens the road leg; your coordinator recommends whichever suits the size of the move and the delivery address.

A full household travels as a dedicated load; a smaller move can share space on a planned Iberian run. Your written quotation sets out the routing and an estimated delivery window, and we keep you informed as the date is fixed.

Customs & documentation

Since Brexit, household goods arriving in Portugal from the UK go through customs. A transfer of residence normally qualifies for relief from import duty when the paperwork is in order: an itemised inventory, your passport, your NIF and evidence of your new residence. We prepare the inventory with you and check the documents before collection, then coordinate clearance at the Portuguese end.

Ending a tenancy in a Docklands tower

Many moves to Portugal begin with the end of a lease in a Blackwall, Wood Wharf or South Quay development. We time the collection to your check-out, book the lift and bay with building management, protect the communal areas and leave the flat empty and tidy for the inventory clerk.

If your furniture belongs to the landlord and only your own belongings are going, we list exactly what leaves, so there is no confusion at check-out.

Delivering into Portuguese homes

A modern apartment in Parque das Nações has a lift and a garage. A townhouse in Alfama or Porto’s Ribeira may have neither, and a street too steep or narrow for a large vehicle. We find out which you have at survey and plan the delivery around it, using a smaller vehicle or an external lift where needed.

Questions about moving to Portugal

Do you deliver from Canary Wharf to Lisbon and Porto?

Yes, and to the rest of mainland Portugal, including the Algarve and the coast around Cascais. Lisbon is the destination we plan most often from E14, followed by Porto.

Lisbon’s old neighbourhoods are steep and narrow. Can a removal vehicle get in?

Often not a full-size one. In districts such as Alfama, Graça or parts of Príncipe Real we transfer the load to a smaller vehicle for the final stretch, and we check at survey whether the building needs an external lift for furniture that will not fit the stairwell.

What will Portuguese customs ask for?

Household goods coming from the UK need customs clearance. You will usually need an itemised inventory, your passport, a Portuguese tax number (NIF) and evidence that you are moving your residence to Portugal. We confirm the details for your situation and prepare the inventory with you before collection.

Can you move us in stages — some things now, the rest later?

Yes. Plenty of Wharf households move to Portugal in two steps: the essentials first, the remainder once a permanent home is found. We hold the second tranche in secure storage in London and send it on when you are ready.
